Chef Adam Small is a classically trained chef with a passion for food that began at a young age, fueled by devouring cookbooks. He spent a decade working as a server before pursuing a culinary profession. He studied Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales University for a year. His early career included cooking, serving, and bartending in Kentucky and New York.
Seeking further immersion, he spent six months in Paris, France, where he focused on French cuisine and wine. He has since familiarized himself with French regional specialties as well as Italian cuisine.
Chef Adam has lived in the Bay Area since 2001. His professional culinary experience includes working in some of the region’s finest restaurants:
•À Côté in Oakland (2001–2003): He cooked at this newly opened small French/Mediterranean tapas place in the Rockridge section of Oakland.
•Wente Vineyards Restaurant in Livermore (2003–2006): He spent four years cooking California cuisine here, working his way up to Acting Restaurant Chef. This restaurant was notably popular, leading to his appearance in the East Bay’s Diablo Magazine and an interview on KGO.
•Acquerello in San Francisco (2006–2007): He worked at Acquerello, described as one of the country’s best northern Italian restaurants, under the leadership of Suzette Grisham.
Since 2008, Chef Adam has been working as a Private Chef in the Bay Area. He hopes to utilize his skills in ways that bring people together, invigorate the senses, and give the community something to celebrate.
